How to manually record a trip in the Ecomiles app

Starting your sustainable commuting journey in the Ecomiles app is simple: trips are recorded using your phone’s location.
1. Open trip recording
On the app’s home screen, tap the Ecomiles logo in the bottom bar (Earn Ecomiles). If this is your first time recording a trip, a few screens will ask for permission to access your location. Granting these permissions is important to avoid GPS recording errors and inconsistencies in your trip.

2. Choose your mode
Once permissions are granted, you will see the available modes: walking, bike, e-bike, bus, rail, motorcycle, car and carpool.

Each mode has its own validation criteria, such as distance, speed and trip duration. These criteria ensure the trip follows the sustainable commuting rules.
3. Start the trip
Once you select a mode, the “Start trip” button turns purple and becomes available. Tap it to begin.
The map updates with your location, and the screen shows your speed, trip time, distance covered and the CO₂ avoided so far.
Now just go! The app keeps recording in the background, so you can use your phone freely. Important: do not close the app. If it is fully closed, the trip will be lost.

4. Finish when you arrive
When you reach your destination, tap the “Finish” flag on the right side of the screen. The trip will be processed and sent for validation. Do not close the app while processing is in progress.

Done! Your first trip has been recorded in Ecomiles and is available on the trips page. There you can check all the details and how many ecomiles you received.
