Grand Prix Sustainable Commute 2026 — EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK: official rules

During EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK, the sustainable commute becomes a game. From 16 to 22 September 2026, anyone in Europe can download the free Ecomiles app, track their trips by bike, on foot, by public transport or carpool — GPS-verified, with CO₂ avoided calculated automatically — and climb the Grand Prix Sustainable Commute leaderboard. Individuals compete for prizes; employers and cities can sponsor rewards for sustainable commuting and receive Scope 3 (Cat. 6/7) commuting data for their teams.
The Grand Prix Sustainable Commute 2026 is a registered MOBILITYACTION on the official EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK platform: mobilityweek.eu → Grand Prix Sustainable Commute 2026 – Ecomiles app (categories: Active Mobility · Social Engagement & Dialogue · International).
This page is the official rulebook of the campaign. Any update to the rules will be recorded here, with the date of the change.
1. The campaign
- Name: Grand Prix Sustainable Commute 2026 — EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK edition
- Organizer: Ecomiles (Ecomilhas Tecnologia Ltda), European subsidiary in Barcelona, Spain
- Where: inside the Ecomiles app, across Europe
- Cost: free for every participant — no subscription, no purchase required
2. Dates
- Start: 16 September 2026, 00:00 (participant's local time)
- End: 22 September 2026, 23:59 (participant's local time) — World Car-Free Day
- Only trips completed and verified within this window count toward the Grand Prix leaderboard.
- Trips logged before or after the window still earn ecomiles normally in the app, but do not enter the Grand Prix ranking.
3. Who can take part
- Anyone commuting in Europe — employees, students, citizens and gig-economy delivery riders — with the Ecomiles app installed (iOS or Android) and an active account.
- Participation is individual. Each participant may also compete on behalf of one employer, university or city, selected in the app.
- Employees of Ecomiles and their immediate family may use the app during the campaign but are not eligible for prizes.
- Participants must be of legal age to hold an account under the Ecomiles Terms of Use.
4. How to participate
- Download the Ecomiles app on the App Store or Google Play and create your account (or sign in).
- Join the Grand Prix from the campaign banner in the app.
- Select your employer, university or city (optional) so that your verified savings also count for your team.
- Commute as usual. Walk, cycle, take public transport, carpool, or drive an electric vehicle. The app detects and saves your trips automatically — no forms, no photos, no self-declaration.
- Follow the leaderboard in the app, updated in real time throughout the Week.
5. What counts
- Eligible modes: walking, cycling, public transport, carpooling and electric vehicles.
- Every trip is GPS-verified by the Ecomiles methodology, which is based on the GHG Protocol and holds limited assurance from an independent third party (KPMG).
- Savings are measured in kilograms of CO₂e avoided compared with the baseline of a conventional combustion car for the same route. In the app, 1 ecomile = 1 kg of CO₂e avoided.
- Trips that fail verification (implausible speed, inconsistent route, duplicated or manipulated location data) are not counted.
6. Scoring and leaderboard
- Individual ranking: the sum of verified CO₂e avoided by the participant during the campaign window.
- Team ranking: the sum of verified CO₂e avoided by all participants who selected the same employer, university or city.
- The leaderboard is European and updated live in the app. Ecomiles may also publish highlights on its website and social channels during EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK.
- Ties are broken by the earliest timestamp at which the tied total was reached.
- Final results are consolidated after the window closes, once all pending verifications are processed.
7. Prizes and sponsored rewards
- Every low-carbon kilometre earns ecomiles, redeemable in the app for rewards sponsored by partner companies.
- Individuals compete for prizes announced in the app before and during the Week. The list of prizes, the winning positions and the redemption rules will be published as an update to this rulebook.
- Employers, universities and cities may sponsor rewards for their own teams — defined and funded by each sponsor, always free of charge for participants — and receive GPS-verified Scope 3 (Categories 6 and 7) commuting data for their teams.
- Retailers and brands may offer rewards redeemable in the app.
- To sponsor rewards or run the Grand Prix as an internal program, contact contato@ecomilhas.app.
8. Campaign goals
As registered on the EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK platform, the campaign aims to: mobilise at least 10,000 participants across Spain, Portugal, Finland and other EU countries; shift at least 20% of participants' car trips to active or shared modes during the campaign; avoid 500+ tCO₂e (methodology with KPMG limited assurance); and onboard 20+ employers and cities that announce their own commuting rewards through the app, so the behaviour change continues after the Week.
9. Fair play
- One account per person. Duplicate accounts, shared devices or automated logging are not allowed.
- Any attempt to manipulate location data, simulate trips, or otherwise game the verification will lead to the removal of the affected trips and, at Ecomiles' discretion, disqualification from the campaign and its prizes.
- Ecomiles' anti-fraud validation applies to every trip, as described in our Security & Methodology page.
10. Privacy
- Ecomiles processes location data only to verify trips and calculate avoided emissions, in accordance with our Privacy Policy and the GDPR.
- Sponsors see aggregated results for their team; they never receive an individual's real-time location.
- Leaderboards show the participant's display name as configured in the app. Participants can change their display name at any time.
11. General terms
- Taking part in the Grand Prix means accepting these rules and the Ecomiles Terms of Use.
- Ecomiles may adjust dates, scoring, prizes or rules if needed to preserve fairness or comply with the law; any change will be published on this page and communicated in the app.
- Questions about the campaign: contato@ecomilhas.app.
