Commute Grand Prix, Barcelona Climate Week 2026: official rules

After New York, the Commute Grand Prix comes to Barcelona. From 13 to 20 October 2026, professionals and teams compete with their daily commute: every trip on foot, by bike, by public transport or by carpool earns points in the Ecomiles app, GPS-verified. Registration is free and you can take part from anywhere. All you need is the app.

We close Barcelona Climate Week on Tuesday 20 October at Norrsken House Barcelona, with an online stream, presenting the final leaderboard, the awards and the CO₂e avoided during the week.

1. The campaign

• Name: Commute Grand Prix, Barcelona Climate Week 2026 edition
• Organizer: Ecomilhas Tecnologia Ltda (Ecomiles), with subsidiaries in Delaware (USA) and Barcelona (Spain)
• Where: inside the Ecomiles app. The in-person final takes place at Norrsken House Barcelona
• Registration: free, in the app

2. Dates

• Start: 13 October 2026, 00:00 (participant's local time)
• End: 20 October 2026, 23:59 (participant's local time)
• Only trips completed and verified within this window count toward the Grand Prix leaderboard.
• Trips logged before or after the window still earn ecomiles normally in the app, but do not enter the Grand Prix ranking.

3. Closing event at Norrsken House Barcelona

• When: Tuesday 20 October 2026, 18:30 to 20:30 (Barcelona time)
• Where: Norrsken House Barcelona, Passeig del Mare Nostrum 15, 08039 Barcelona. Also streamed online

• The PMST becomes mandatory on 5 December 2026 for workplaces with more than 200 people. The talk is practical: how to go from legal compliance to real behaviour change.
• Free entry with prior registration on Luma.

4. Who can take part

• Anyone, anywhere in the world, with the Ecomiles app installed (iOS or Android) and an active account.
• Participation is individual. Each participant may also compete on behalf of one employer, selected in the app.
• Employees of Ecomiles and their immediate family may use the app during the campaign but are not eligible for prizes.
• Participants must be of legal age to hold an account under the Ecomiles Terms of Use.

5. How to participate

1. Download the Ecomiles app on the App Store or Google Play and create your account (or sign in).
2. Join the Grand Prix from the campaign banner in the app. Registration is free.
3. Select your employer (optional) so that your verified savings also count for your company's team.
4. Commute as usual. Walk, cycle, take public transport or carpool. The app detects and saves your trips automatically: no forms, no photos, no self-declaration.
5. Follow the leaderboard in the app, updated live throughout the week.

6. What counts

• Eligible modes are the low-carbon modes already recognized by the Ecomiles app.
• Every trip is GPS-verified by the Ecomiles methodology, which is based on the GHG Protocol and holds limited assurance from an independent third party (KPMG).
• Savings are measured in kilograms of CO₂e avoided compared with the baseline of a conventional combustion car for the same route. In the app, 1 ecomile = 1 kg of CO₂e avoided.
• Trips that fail verification (implausible speed, inconsistent route, duplicated or manipulated location data) are not counted.

7. Scoring and leaderboard

• Individual ranking: the sum of verified CO₂e avoided by the participant during the campaign window.
• Employer ranking: the sum of verified CO₂e avoided by all participants who selected that employer during the window.
• The leaderboard is updated live in the app. Ecomiles may also publish highlights on its website and social channels during Barcelona Climate Week.
• Ties are broken by the earliest timestamp at which the tied total was reached.
• Final results are consolidated after the window closes, once all pending verifications are processed, and presented at the closing event.

8. Employers and sponsored rewards

• Any employer can appear in the leaderboard as soon as one of its employees selects it in the app, with no contract required.
• Employers may choose to sponsor rewards for their own teams (for example, redeemable ecomiles or prizes for their top participants). Sponsored rewards are defined and funded by each employer and are always free of charge for participants.
• Employers interested in sponsoring rewards, receiving their team's verified Scope 3 data, or running the Grand Prix as an internal program ahead of the PMST can contact us at contato@ecomilhas.app.

9. Fair play

• One account per person. Duplicate accounts, shared devices or automated logging are not allowed.
• Any attempt to manipulate location data, simulate trips, or otherwise game the verification will lead to the removal of the affected trips and, at Ecomiles' discretion, disqualification from the campaign.
• Ecomiles' anti-fraud validation applies to every trip, as described in our Security & Methodology page.

10. Privacy

• Ecomiles processes location data only to verify trips and calculate avoided emissions, in accordance with our Privacy Policy and the GDPR.
• Employers see aggregated results for their team; they never receive an individual's real-time location.
• Leaderboards show the participant's display name as configured in the app, which can be changed at any time.
• By registering for the closing event on Luma, you agree to share your registration information with the organizers of BCN Climate Week.

11. General terms

• Taking part in the Grand Prix means accepting these rules and the Ecomiles Terms of Use.
• Ecomiles may adjust dates, scoring or rules if needed to preserve fairness or comply with the law; any change will be published on this page and communicated in the app.
